    Living an Orange County Ghetto

So I’ve moved to the ghetto.  Well as much of a ghetto as you can find in Orange County.  At least it is not a violent crime ridden ghetto, just a ghetto full of people who don’t make what Orange County expects people to make.  I do like our apartment I’ve just noticed some things that I want to share.

    1.  There are so many Mexicans in my area that I get Spanish flyers on my door and one night I had a lady who came to my door and since I didn’t speak Spanish I didn’t know what she wanted.  They look at me like I’m weird that I don’t speak Spanish as opposed to it being weird that they live in the states and don’t speak English.

There is one really cute little boy who wants to pet Bowie, but his dad freaked Bowie out.  I have a hard time communicating that Bowie is scared of strange men since they didn’t speak English.  She also tried to charge a boy who was bouncing a soccer ball since she LOVES balls.  The dad looked concerned so I pointed to the ball and said she loves balls.  I think he understood because he laughed and I think he asked his some if he wanted to play with Bowie using the ball, but I can’t be sure.  Maybe I should learn some Spanish.  Not that it matters, but there are some other white couples in our complex so we don’t completely stick out.  Tongue out

    2.  We have a guy on a tricycle that rides around honking a horn.  He’s actually a sales person like those you see at the border selling items like grilled corn on the cob and icies.  I got excited until I found out that he didn’t have the churro maker like the guys do at the border.  Those are the best churros ever.  Since he doesn’t have churros he’s become the annoying guy who honks his horn for about ten minutes every night. Confused I think it would be rude to go take of picture of him, but I really want to.

    3.  When I walk my dog to the grassy area I get a clear shot of the freeway signs.  We are right next to that freeway.  I know that, but the size of those signs seemed huge from my grassy knoll.  I may take a picture of that as well to share.  Luckily, the location of our apartment is blocked from the noise by our neighbors.

    4.  I think our apartment was built on nuclear waste or something.  Anytime I’ve lived in a place that was on the ground floor, the floors were always cool.  For some reason the floors at this place are warm and if I leave clothes on the floor, when I pick them up the floor is even warmer.  If anyone knows why that would be, please let me know. Surprised I’m kind of freaked out by it.

    5.  The kids are so cute.  We have so many kids that luckily there aren’t many of the 20-something rude groups of people living together.  The kids all play outside and are so friendly.  Some don’t speak English, but they try.  The girls next door love Bowie.  She lets them pet her as long as I’m kneeling down.  She’s warming up to them.  She used to try to run.  My chicken little dog. Dog face

    6.  We have an honest to god Mexican butcher across the street.  I have yet to venture over there since I don’t like Mexican food, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Dave goes over to get some authentic carne asada.

I think there are someother oddities I've noticed, I just can't think of them now.  The positives have been, we can't hear our neighbors unless we're outside.  No bugs.  The last few apartment has roaches at movein that took a while to kill off.  So gross. Sick  The managers are so nice and friendly.  And we are extremely close to work, Dave's school and the kids' mother so we don't spend as much time in the car.

    This past weekend...

Well, Jillian turned 9 yesterday.  Seems crazy that it has almost 6 years since I first meet Ryan and Jillian.  She got two guitars for her birthday.  One is a low end kids learning guitar and the other is a Yamaha youth guitar which is just like her daddy’s but smaller.  Dave took time yesterday to teach Jillian and Carissa “A.”  They were doing good unlike their fingers started hurting from pushing on the strings.  Dave may pick up a finger strengthener for Jilli so she can strengthen her finger muscles. Wink  I hope she can work pat the finger pain.  Jillian would like to learn the guitar so she could play it at her school talant school.  I think it would be awsome if she could learn the guitar.  Dave asked if I wanted to learn.  I don't think so, but who knows.  I may change my mind.  We have an extra adult guitar that I could use.

On Sunday we took the kids to Wild Rivers and spent the day playing on water slides.  We had fun until we went on the bongo bowls for the second time.  The slide spits you out into a bowl where you spin until you finally make it into the hole at the bottom that drops you into a pool.  The kids and I all ended up hitting our heads upon entering the bowl.  I was going so fast that it seemed like I wouldn’t stop spinning which made my back hurt and I had to hook my leg in the hole to get out.  And for some reason from that point forward my top kept having malfunctions at the end of slides.  Embarrassed  My top was perfect for the first half of the day.  What the heck???

Yesterday, we took the family including Bowie to the beach.  My dad with his dog and my sister’s family with their dog joined us.  It was fun.  Bowie would only play in the water if we were throwing her Frisbee.  She didn’t want anything to do with Hook, my dad’s dog, even though they had spent Saturday together playing at my apartment.  Bowie is a little backwards.  She doesn’t want to play with dogs unless they come to her home, unlike most dogs that don’t like strange dogs in their territory.  This was my sister's dog Rusty's first trip to the beach.  He had fun.  Rusty is a big boy, but a very well behaved goofy boy.  He would run up to dog to sniff them and them come bouncing back.  He started to play leapfrog with Bowie when Bowie was chasing her Frisbee.  Dogs are so cute.
